Organizational Aims / Objectives

  • Diversify pastoral livelihoods of target groups in a sustainable way thereby contributing for the enhancement and the attainment of food security.
  • Promote effective natural resource conservation and management practices through learning & understanding indigenous knowledge in the community.
  • Develop social and economic sectors like development of irrigation schemes, water and sanitation facilities, health and education, as a prerequisite for the development of the community.
  • With equal participation of men and women promotes broad based, poverty oriented economic growth and sustainable development;
  • Upgrade the organizational, managerial and technical capacities of CBO’s and local government;

Key personnel - Staff in Leadership

Eng. Gebreyes Haile - General Manager

With a passion for service and deep commitment to SSD’s core values, Eng Gebreyes Haile leads 68 staff in SSD working to end poverty and build sustainable livelihoods at grass root level. Eng. Gebreyes as the principal founder and SSD’s General Manager, provides strategic direction and guidance to the staff and management of SSD.
Eng. Gebreyes’s entire career has been in rural development. He has served LWF - Ethiopia for 20 years, previously holding the position of Soil and Water Conservation Department Director. In the 1960s and 1970s, Eng. Gebreyes has served in Tendaho Plantations as Resident Engineer for 20 years.
Eng. Gebreyes’ holds B.Sc and master's degree in Agricultural Engineering from University of Southampton and Diploma in Engineering from the former Addis Ababa Engineering College.


Elizabeth Milten - Deputy General Manager

  As SSD’s Deputy General Manager, Elizabeth Milten provides strategic leadership  and  management for all development programming of SSD in Afar and Oromia Regions.

Elizabeth has started working in SSD as Environmental Officer and Project Coordinator in 2006. She has served SSD for the last eight years holding the positions of Project Coordinator, Program Manager, and Programs Coordinator and finally in the present Deputy Manager position.

Elizabeth holds a BA Degree in Plant Production and Dry land Farming from Hawassa University. She later studied at VanHall Larenstein University of Netherlands where she received her Master's Degree in Management of Development with a specialization in International Agriculture.


Wegen Tilahun - Admin and Finance Head

Wegen Tilahun serves as SSD’s Finance & Administration Head. Wegen works passionately with Finance & Administration tools and systems that build the financial management capacity of the organization and performance reporting for donors. He received his BA Degree in Accounting from Mekele University. Wegen started work in SSD as an accountant in 2007.

 


Terefe Seife - Program Coordinator

As a member of the Program Team, Terefe Seife coordinates the day to day implementation of projects and make sure budget expenditures are as per plan and schedule of the projects. He also facilitates monitoring and evaluation of projects and provide technical support to field staffs in Agriculture related interventions of SSD

Terefe is a graduate of Hawassa University where he received Diploma in Agricultural Engineering. He later obtained his B.A degree in Management from Alpha University College. Terefe has 21 years of experience in Agriculture and Rural Development before joining SSD in 2008.
